This book was very interesting and informative. I have always enjoyed watching war movies but I haven't read but maybe one other war story. I feel anything that is based off a true story and gives insight on a situation should be shared. He provided step by step details that helped paint the scenes as if I was there. The pictures and drawing was a great touch. It helps those of us who are visual to have a better attachment and understanding of what is written.I liked how he gave history from the start as to how this book even came about. I think how much greater this book could have been if other Ghost Troopers were located or even responded back. I believe they missed out on helping the world to better understand what happened through their eyes and not what the media wants us to know.Overall, this was a touching story that shared many moments: good, bad,heartbreaking and rewarding. I appreciate this book being written because I was too young at the time to fully know or understand what was going on. This should be read at schools and to those who are freshly enlisted to help shed light on what happens and who those people were. After reading this book, as well as two other of Guardia’s books, Wings of Fury and Foxbat Tales, I have come to regard him as one of the preeminent post-Vietnam era military historians currently working. Here he tells the story of the 120-man Ghost Troop which engaged the Iraqi Republican Guard in the Battle of 73 Easting during the opening days of the very short Gulf War. The battle’s name simply identifies the coordinates on a map where the engagement was fought.As usual, the author does a scrupulous job of researching his topic, interviewing several of the combatants and telling the story through their eyes. The book also gives an excellent history of the circumstances which led up to the conflict, detailing Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait and his totally unfounded belief that the United States would not risk its soldiers in such a war. Saddam tended to believe that his troops were better than they actually were. In fact, many of the prisoners taken by the Ghost Troop included men who had been forced to fight by Saddam’s police. The Tawakalkna Division, however, did pose a major threat and the best of part of this book is the description of the combat scenes against this foe.Indeed, the author is masterful in piecing together a thousand details from the eyewitnesses themselves and pulling it together to provide an intense narrative that puts you right in the seat of an M1 Abrams tank or a Bradley fighting vehicle. Highly recommended for history buffs and those that want to know more about the warfare on the ground during the Gulf War.
